Epic Fondue Fail
How hard could it be to make fondue? Apparently pretty hard. I tried to make a cheese fondue for dinner tonight and failed. Horribly. I searched for a long time for some fondue recipes that don't require alcohol and once I found one I decided it was time to bust out the fondue pot! I had all kinds of veggies and bread to dip in it. We also cooked steaks to have something a little more substantial (but really is was my back-up plan for if Brad wasn't crazy about my fondue idea, and I'm glad I got them, even though I'm not a huge fan of steak.) I tried to take a picture of my failed fondue, in all it's lumpy glory, but couldn't because I couldn't stop gagging long enough to take one. But seriously, is there anything more frustrating than a failed dinner attempt? Well, I guess I can think of a few tihngs, but it's right up there on my list! I mean, you spend money on the ingredients, not to mention the time you spend making it and then you can't even enjoy it! Plus, I have no idea what other things I can use those ingredients in? Know any recipes that call for dried mustard? I didn't even know it existed until now. If that wasn't bad enough, earlier this week I successfully made a new recipe that turned out beautifully, but neither of us cared much for it so we have two containers full of leftovers that neither one of us wants to eat, but that we hate to throw away. So, it looks like we're back to the same old rotations... I think I'll go make some cookies. Cookies never fail me. And by "never" I really mean less often.

oh my ashley dear! I'm sorry for your bad experience. I know how you feel, i hate coming up with new recipes and wondering if they are going to work. You are my hero for trying! Love you girl!
ReplyDeleteAt least, if you had to fail, it was epic. And blog worthy. Sorry to hear about your fondue misfortune, though. And, kind of randomly, I do have a recipe for pork chops that uses dried mustard powder...I will have to look it up and give it to you :)
ReplyDeleteI think you're awesome for even trying. I went right to Hamburger Helper when we got married. It always turns out but has almost Zero nutritional value. Don't give up! Try a different recipe every week but find ones that have easy ingredients. One of our favorites is shipwreck and you can't mess it up. Ask Brad if he liked Mom's though before you do it. No need to make it if he already knows he hates it. Have fun trying new things!
ReplyDeleteNew recipes can be an adventure :) That's cool that you tried it out though. I have never thought about doing a fondue recipe.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, love your blog! I really like the photo of you and Brad, very pretty.
