I've been thinking for a while now that I need to update our sad little neglected blog, but every time I get on I remember that I messed up the layout and should try to fix how it looks. Then, after all the time I've spent messing around with the layout, I decide to get up and do something instead of stare at a computer screen. ADD? Maybe. But today I decided was actually going to write something. (Mostly for my own memory since my journaling habits are just as poor as my blogging habits.) I've also been thinking about this whole blogging thing that everyone's into these days. And I think I'm going to write about the things that happen everyday, not just the times we go to the beach or San Fransisco or what have you. It sort of makes our life look like it's all Disneyland and sunshine (okay, maybe the sunshine part is true, it isn't called "Sunny California" for nothing.) but it's not. Not always. We go to work, school and watch approximately 197 movies a day. We're incredibly happy, but we have our fair share of trials just like everyone else. I love reading other people's blogs that are real about stuff, you know? Like when your friend almost burns the kitchen down making dinner and you giggle because the exact same thing happened to you. Or when someone else has a bad day but they write about it and you realize you're not the only one who has bad luck like that. I think thats what this blog world should really be for. Making eachother feel a little more validated. Learning from eachother's mistakes. Do I think we should all hang our dirty laundry for everyone to see? Certainly not. Do I think we should mope and complain to eachother about how hard life can be? No. Okay, maybe a little, we all have one of those days. But when other people are successful at things we should be inspired to do something great ourselves, not wish we had what they have. It's not just with blogs, but life altogether I suppose.
Anyway, that's a lot to say for someone who has writer's block. I think I'll just leave it at that today, I'll tell you about the sweet old man that I met at the DMV tomorrow. For now, I'm going to have a snack.
Hear! Hear! The everyday stuff is the most fun to read anyway.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear about it.
ReplyDeleteAMEN! I love this post Ashley and couldn't agree more. I feel kind of isolated out here in Monterey, and reading the blogs of people I know makes me feel more connected. And it is comforting to see that other people's lives aren't perfect, there's good and bad for us all. I learn so much from other people's blogs, and sometimes its just fun to read!
