To MJ, Noelle and Chrysanthemum

We used to use butter knives to cut windows in cardboard boxes and make them into houses to play in together. We used to send our barbies down the gutter in make-shift boats. We used to sit in garbage bags and send ourselves down the gutter for that matter. We used to steal each other's clothes then put them back in the closet before they got home and pretend like we never wore them. We used to hide in each other's closets and wait for the perfect moment to scare each other. We used to share rooms and stay up late into the night talking. We used to have "sleepovers" in each other's rooms when we weren't sharing so we could stay up late into the night talking. We used to fight, or give each other silent treatments. We used to laugh until we cried and then some. We still do.

Only, we don't share a bathroom anymore. If fact, we live in three different states. Now we text each other inside jokes, or send picture messages of something we know only a sister would appreciate. We Skype each other and talk about when we're going to be together next, or what we would do if we could drop everything and come for a visit.

You know, I think I learned everything I know from my sisters. Especially important things like how to flirt with boys, how to straighten my hair and how to pluck my eyebrows. But on more than one occasion I caught my sisters praying, or reading scriptures or doing some small act of service. I'm learning from them all the time. I call them when I'm upset or when I'm ecstatic. I know they're there for me.

Oh, how I miss my sisters! (I miss my brother too, but you'll hear about him another day.)

What's more, is that I've recently acquired 6 new sisters! What more could a girl ask for?! Of course, these sisters I've known only for about 3 years rather than 22, but already I've learned so much from them.

I've seen them give endlessly to their families and still find the time and love to serve those around them. I've seen them welcome complete strangers into their homes and make them feel welcome. I've seen them support each other, and laugh with each other just like I did with my sisters.

I'm thankful for my sisters, all of them. For their examples, for their support and for their love!

{But I just can't write about sisters and not post THIS. It's been in the back of my mind the whole time. SO funny!}

  3. which is the retarded sister in your family Ashley? :) I know that you will never write that blog about brothers because your brothers-in-law are really mean and hateful!
    Thanks for your kind words- you too are an example to me of a fantastic sister that would welcome strangers into her home and let them sleep on every inch of her floor......
