Here's the thing. I've been on a major social media hating kick lately. I can't stand to read everyone's political(sometimes uneducated)opinions, I hate it when people use letters and numbers instead of words, "Hit me up 2 hang out with U, b4 I go back to Cali 2nite", I don't care much for the details of anyone's break-up, their baby's poopy diaper, their pregnancy (and how tired/sick/emotional etc. they are because of it), or that they're going to bed, going grocery shopping or cooking dinner. Oh, and don't get me started on the "If you believe in Jesus/America/Saving Whales SHARE this, if you don't you're not Christian/American/A Good Person.." photos. (You know the ones!) I know what you're thinking, "Well then don't get on facebook then, you have a choice!" And don't get me wrong, I care about ALL of those things for people in real life. I get that if you have a baby, poopy diapers are pretty important to your daily life (or so I hear), or that if you're breaking up with someone you want to let all your anger out in a really vague way, so that people will feel sorry for you and ask you what's wrong so that you can answer "nothing" so that they can reply with "Well, whatever you need, I'm here for you" and give you lots of attention... I get it. But, ugh, really? I'm over it. In a big way.
I'm also finding that I'm bored to death of "Mormon Mommy Blogs", which I used to find very useful in making dinner menus and crafty projects. (OK I still do sometimes!) Now they seem WAY too superficial and forced. (Maybe they have always been that way, but I'm just now seeing it?) I'm even getting pretty fed up with everyone's cherished Pinterest. (But don't count me out just yet! Helllooooo dessert board.) If I see one more picture of a mostly naked woman with too-good-to-be-true abs and a subtitle like "101 Ways to Lose ALL Body Fat FAST" (Maybe I'm exaggerating) I will literally spoon my own eyeballs out. (Also an exaggeration. My apologies.) Again, I can hear you saying, "Then don't get online! Nobody is forcing you to read Mormon Mommy blogs, or making you get on Pinterest!"
Maybe in my old age (ha!) I'm realizing that it's just not worth it have people in your life that make you want to spoon your eyeballs out. I would much rather spend time with REAL people, here and now, than spend time stalking other people on facebook. Or maybe it's the hippie that's coming out in me that makes me realize that the Earth is FAR too beautiful and exciting to spend your time indoors on the computer pinning ideas that will never come to fruition. (Although, I have done some awesome projects thanks to Pinterest!) I guess what I'm trying to say, in a really long, drawn out, bitter-sounding way is, that's why I also haven't posted to the blog since February. I'm a little bit over it.(And also because, in March, I wrote a really long, detailed and witty blog post about Brad's 30th birthday celebration, only to accidentally delete it when I tried to paste my sentimental Walt Disney quote at the VERY END. It was the last straw and I haven't been back to the blog since.)
BUT.
Because I love my REAL friends so much, and because I don't live nearly as close to some of them as I would like to, I decided to keep up my blog so that they can see that I am still among the living. (And because I have been threatened with my life if I don't post to the blog.) Hopefully, later in life I will be glad that I wrote some of this stuff down.
So prepare yourselves. I'm coming back! (Probably.) And it's going to be awesome. (At least to me.)
Amen to the "I'm losing my faith in humanity" aspect of social media. I permanently deleted my facebook account a while ago for many of the reasons you listed. I could not understand how I was wasting so much time on something I seriously could not stand! Anyway, I'm glad you'll be blogging again. Your posts are always fun :)
ReplyDeleteI surely love this, and I am so glad you're back. I've wondered whats been going on with you two handsome looking married people. I think you're great, Ash. For real.
ReplyDeleteWe love to hear from you! You're an amazing person and so is Brad :)
ReplyDeleteI'd been hoping you'd return to blogging. I think you are a great writer with an interesting life, the combination of which makes for a great read. I vote that you start posting again!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. BUT, you MUST continue your blog. It is your journal. Did you see mine last time you were here? Every Christmas I get my blog printed up into a book and I LOVE it. It isn't just for me but for my family and for the future, whatever it may hold. Your very own life lessons in a book you can actually touch and hold. You will be so grateful in the years to come. You need to blog whatever an whenever your heart desires. It's good therapy. Love ya tons!
ReplyDeleteYes! Life is too short to feel like you want to spoon your eyeballs out! :)
ReplyDeleteAmen Sister! I also tire of the too good to be true things that pinterest and the blogging world has to offer sometimes but I LOVE hearing about your fun life! And I know this is on the wrong post but hey I'm lazy and only want to write once haha... but Brad's birthday post is amazing! I especially love the title! We miss you guys, and seriously need a TX or CA adventure as soon as we can!
